NEAT yra ta vieta, kur gyvena didžioji dalis tikros tarpasmeninės variacijos — neramumas, laikysena, spontaninė judėjimas. Tai taip pat yra komponentas, kuris tyliai sumažėja laikantis dietos, kas yra didelė dalis to, ką žmonės patiria kaip savo medžiagų apykaitos "lėtėjimą".

Išvada yra nemaloni ir nuosekli: žmonės žymiai neatskaičiuoja suvartojimo, o neatskaičiavimas yra didesnis žmonėms su didesniu kūno svoriu. Tai nėra tyčinis apgaulė — porcijų įvertinimas iš tikrųjų yra sunkus, ir joks maisto dienoraštis tiksliai neapima aliejaus.

Energijos prieinamumas, o ne tik suvartojimas
