Adaptive thermogenesis is real: energy expenditure falls somewhat more than body-composition change predicts, and the Biggest Loser follow-up documented it persisting for years. [1]
Why the claim persists
It slows loss; it does not stop it or reverse it. A plateau at a genuine deficit is almost always under-reported intake rather than metabolism halting.

How do you decide a verdict?
